Trigger Point Dry Needling (Intramuscular Stimulation)

image47

Dry Needling is a general term for a therapeutic procedure that involves inserting a filament needle into a muscle that produces pain or dysfunction and typically contains a ‘Trigger Point’.

Dry needling is thought to work by disrupting a reflex arc of contracted tissue as well as stimulating biochemical changes to allow improved blood flow and healing to the area. It also affects the central nervous system, the perception of pain, and the modulation of pain.  Dry needling is not acupuncture, a practice based on traditional Chinese medicine where needles are usually inserted at precise acupuncture points for desired results.
