Low back pain has become an epidemic in today’s society and is the leading cause of activity limitation, work absence and is associated with great economic burden.  Sacroiliac joint dysfunction has been reported to be the cause of up to 30% of low back pain in the adult population.  However, many therapists are still uncertain of how to accurately assess for and treat sacroiliac dysfunctions.

This course is intended to teach systematic, hands on evaluation, assessment and treatment of sacral restriction dysfunctions.  Included will be the presentation and discussion of backward and forward sacral torsions, as well as unilaterally flexed, unilaterally extended and compound sacral dysfunctions. Palpation skills and sacral biomechanics will be emphasized for accurate diagnosis while the demonstration of treatment techniques will focus on manual therapies such as muscle energy techniques and joint mobilizations.   These practical skills will allow participants to successfully identify sacral dysfunctions and restore sacral mobility in their patients, ultimately improving outcomes.
